Life is a Mystery

In our RATIONAL world which the ENLIGHTENMENT has persuaded all of us that everything in life can be measured, determined, and explained, given enough time and effort. This assumption is just not true. Human life is full of mysteries, mysteries FAR BEYOND our human abilities and imaginations.

The Bible repeatedly reminds us that LIFE IS A MYSTERY.

Here are a few examples.

Ecclesiastes 11:5-6
"Just as you do not know how the breath comes to the bones in the mother's womb, so you do not know the works of God, who makes everything.
In the morning sow your seed, and at evening do not let your hands be idle; for you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good."

The smartest scientists on earth can describe all the parts of the human body in detail. The greatest doctors can make and use medicine to aid people become well. The greatest electricians can work with skilled surgeons and nurses to remove infected tissues from the human body to heal people. And one could go on an on.

But when it is all said and done, NO ONE can bring and sustain BREATH into the body of a human being or an animals. HOW BREATH happens is a mystery. Oh yes, we can describe breath, but we cannot make a person breathe. This is a GOD THING.

The structure of the body, the functions of the body, the intricate systems in the body are amazing, and lie far beyond our human imagination. But on top of all that, BREATH is a complete mystery within itself--from the human perspective. ONLY GOD can bring this into being and sustain it.

Isaiah 2:22 says its well:
"Turn away from mortals,
who have only BREATH in their nostrils,
for of what account are they?"

Pride, arrogance, controlling other human beings, and the like are obviously contrary to the reality of life.
